Overview of Cassa Integrazione, Dismissals and Unemployment - May 2013
Authorized hours of CIG (Area of Milan), CIG Ordinary (Assolombarda companies) and Unemployment (Italy and other countries).
During the first five months of 2013 the authorized hours of Cassa Integrazione Guadagni in the Area of Milan lowered (-2%) compared to the same period of the previous year. Differently, in Italy the same comparison showed an increasing use of CIG (+7%).
Focusing on May 2013, the authorized hours of CIG diminished both as compared with April 2013 and May 2012, at national level and, strongly, in the Area of Milan. On the contrary, in May CIG Straordinaria was higher than April both in Italy and in the Area of Milan.
Overall, the reduction of the total amount of CIG was mainly due to CIG in deroga, whose funding was difficult.
The hours of CIGO of Assolombarda companies authorized in May decreased as compared with April (-30%); they corresponded to 22% of the total amount in the Area of Milan.
In April 2013 the Italian unemployment rate reached 12%, closer to Euro Area average (12.2%). In Europe the unemployment rate grew in Spain while it was static both in France and Germany. In the USA the unemployment went down to 7.5%.
