Manufacturing Sector - April 2013

Business Survey of the Manufacturing Sector in the Milan Area.

In April 2013, manufacturing confidence in the Milan area grew for the second consecutive month, back to the level of June 2011.

In detail

The confidence climate index moved from 96.2 in March to 97.4 in April. The increase of the indicator was linked both to foreign and domestic demand (the first balance went back to the level of April 2008, while the second remained negative) and to the contribution of stocks that continued their decrease, standing under the level considered normal. In the end, production expectation were in line with the previous month.

In terms of assessments, industrial production rose, showing again apositive balance. Domestic turnover was the same as March, while the foreign one climbed up on the level of the beginning of the year. Employment was substantially steady on the positive value of the previous month.

With reference to forecasts for the next 3-4 months, domestic and foreign orders expectations dropped.

Finally, opinions about the Italian economic situation continued to be extremely negative, though recording an improvement compared with March.
